Usher in 2019 at the Artist’s Gallery

Residents are invited to The Artists’ Gallery on First Friday, Jan. 4, from 5-8 p.m., for our first art event of the New Year! Engage with our member artists while enjoying complimentary refreshments, and singer-guitarist, Tom Gudding, will entertain with classic folk/rock music. We’re featuring the fabulous art of two well-known local artists:

Painter, Ken McGowan, is a fourth-generation native of Leadville residing in Cañon City with his wife, Monica. Ken received his B.A. in Fine Arts Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and earned his M.A. in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado. A highly-respected educator for over 34 years, now retired, Ken currently teaches art classes designed for adults, sharing his expertise and passion.

Through the years, Ken has won numerous awards in juried art shows and has completed many public and private murals. In his Featured Artist display, he will be presenting a new series of landscapes in acrylic, fresh off the easel!

Pat Wiles is an eclectic artist who works in a variety of medium. One always wonders what Pat is going to display as a featured artist but can be assured it will be something new and different! In the past, she has surprised us with magnificent flowers, wildfires, horses, and fantasy. All she will divulge is that she is playing with light and color, further exploring her new media, “watercrylic”.

Pat loves sharing her time and knowledge with young people, and is a dedicated leader in our local 4-H. She is instrumental in the 4-H Visual Arts Classes and the Summer Youth Art Camp, teaching and inspiring future artists!

In the “Collectors Corner”, we are exhibiting six beautifully-framed antique needlepoint creations from the private collection of fiber artist, Betty Parsons.

The Artists’ Gallery is located at 416 Main St. Our winter hours are daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. throughout January and February.
