All aboard! Do you have an affinity for trains and/or want to experience nostalgia for your childhood? The best way to do so is to – of course – board one of Colorado’s many scenic trains. Not sure which to check out? According to USA Today’s 10Best, you should start with one of these three award-winning locomotives:

The people have spoken: As per USA Today’s 10Best, three of the best train rides in America are located right here in Colorado!

As per their annual list of the Best Scenic Train Rides, the best ride in America is the gorgeous Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, noted as “One of the most authentic steam-operated railroads in existence, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad runs for 64 miles between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado, passing through the San Juan Mountains and the scenic Conejos Valley along the way.”

In addition to the fabulous Cumbres & Toltec, 10Best goes on to list the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad at #5 and the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway at #9. 

Which other trains were listed on this prestigious list? The Best Scenic Train Rides in America also includes the Colebrookdale Railroad in Pennsylvania (#2), Roaring Camp Railroads in California (#4), and White Pass & Yukon Route Railway (#10, pictured).

Riding the rails since 1879, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is open year-round and can be booked via their website or by calling (877) 872-4607.

Please note: The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway is still closed for track repair but is scheduled to re-open in May 2021. For more information, please visit their website.
