It’s no secret that places like Memphis, Texas, and Kansas City are known far and wide for their mouthwatering BBQ, but Colorado (with our green chile, smothered burritos, and Palisade peaches)? Not so much. While we would normally agree with this, a Colorado BBQ joint has changed our outlook forever, and you are going to want a taste.
Welcome to Smokin’ Yards BBQ, “Where smokin’ is more than just a hobby.”
Started in Idaho Springs in 2008, Smokin’ Yards is known far and wide for its take on BBQ, which is described as being “borrowed from many regions to bring you our ‘High Elevation BBQ.'”
Featuring its original location along the Clear Creek River in Idaho Springs and a new restaurant in Denver’s Santa Fe Art District, Smokin’ Yards promises something for everyone, beginning with their pulled pork, beef burnt ends, and pulled chicken sandwiches.
Like all great BBQ joints, Smokin’ Yards considers the pig and the chicken equal, which they showcase via baby back and St. Louis style ribs, plus smoked chicken and hot wings.
What is a BBQ restaurant without gigantic combination plates? Smokin’ Yards has those, too, which showcases their pork, hot links, ribs, chicken, and brisket.
Do sides deserve a picture and description of their own? They do at Smokin’ Yards, thanks to such yumminess as homemade mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato or french fries, coleslaw, and more.

Both Smokin’ Yards BBQ locations are open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
