A campaign started in Routt County, CO, home to Steamboat Ski Area, has gained momentum and support from other businesses and ski counties in Colorado.
‘SOS – Save Our Season / Stop Our Spread’ was started to raise awareness of what we need to do to stop the spread of covid-19 and save the ski season.
SOS! Save Our Season and Stop Our Spread! We love our close knit community, but with COVID transmissions up we need to cut down on social contacts so that our businesses can remain open and ski season can continue as planned. Supporters are being asked to ‘act now’ and sign a pledge and donate via GoFundMe to save the ski season ‘before it’s too late.’ Organizers are requesting people sign the pledge to stop COVID spread by following the prevention guidelines published by health and government leaders and limit contact to just your family or household unit. At the time of writing, 369 people have signed the pledge.
Our mountain community is facing a crisis. With COVID cases rising locally the ski season is at risk, which threatens thousands of jobs and the economy of Steamboat and Routt County.
This fundraiser is intended to fund a campaign to create greater awareness of the need for our community to change our social behavior before the ski season is lost. By now we all know what to do, but we need to do more to reduce contact with others in the coming weeks and over Thanksgiving.
It’s a simple message – SOS – Save our Season / Stop Our Spread.
Funds will be collected and passed through the YVCF to be used for stickers, window clings, social media campaigns, and print advertising. The more we raise the further our message can go!
The GoFundMe has so far raised $5,560 of its $7,500 target. Funds will be passed through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation (YVCF) to be used for stickers, window clings, social media campaigns and print advertising to spread the message as far and wide as possible.
Neighboring Grand County, home to Winter Park Resort, have also joined the campaign, lending their support.
