Toyota has pulled the sheets on the 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition, an off-roader variant of the Tacoma pickup truck set to rival the Chevy Colorado Z71 and GMC Canyon AT4.
The Tacoma Trail Edition was first introduced last year, and returns for the 2022 model year. The special edition vehicle is based on the the Tacoma SR5, and is only offered in a Double Cab body configuration
One of more important upgrades is a suspension lift up front and in the rear. New coil springs up front raise the truck 1.1 inches, while a new spacer between the rear axle housing and leaf springs in back add 0.5 inches.
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition also deletes the front air dam. Put it all together, and the truck offers an approach angle of 34 degrees, a departure angle of 23.6 degrees, and a breakover angle of 26.4 degrees. Underbody protection is provided with TRD Off-Road skid plates.
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition also comes with a standard locking rear differential. Making the go is a naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 producing 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The Tacoma Tow Package is standard, with max towing rated at 6,400 pounds.
As for the exterior and styling, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is offered in four paint colors, including a new hue dubbed Lunar Rock. Black badging adorns the body panels, while a TRD Pro grille is found up front with bronze accenting. The bronze finish continues with the wheels, which offer an extra 0.5 inches in track width. Goodyear all-terrain rubber provides the traction.
Inside the cabin, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition is equipped with a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with two-way lumbar support, dual-zone climate control, and all-weather floor liners. The black fabric also features tan stitching unique to Trail Edition models. An 8-inch infotainment screen is included as well.
Final details include lockable bed storage and a 120-volt power outlet.
